Residency / Ovye

This July, we welcome Aaron “Ovye” Anduwa for a 3-week writing residency.

Ovye is a Kaduna bred artist with an experimental approach to the continuous exploration of self-expression. He has authored three poetry collections since 2017 (NOT FOR HAPPY PEOPLE, 2017; not FOR HAPPY PEOPLE, 2019; NOTes FOR HAPPY PEOPLE, 2020). He has also written and co-produced two music projects titled Ketchup On Everything in 2019 and Ramin Tsuliyan Ungwan Pama in 2022. Among his artistic influences are Ai Weiwei, Hugh Masakela, Mitski, and others. His music in particular features ethereal melodies upon which are layered reverberating bass and icy falsettos.

An alternative biography reads: “Ovye is a matured man, 27 years of age.” This information is culled from his open to the world Google Drive- a somewhat anticlimactic but equally brilliant method of sharing his incredible talent. The drive folder reveals portals into worlds of poetry, prose and spoken word (of which this particular writer recommends “Daddy Issues” as a must listen). This particular brand of esotericism is grounded when you interact with Ovye - he is a romantic. A real effing romantic.

Artist notes on 416=11

During his time here, Ovye will be constructing an alternative sound from previous work of his by carefully inviting audience participation. 416=11 will ask “to whom do we credit the invention of money?" In order to participate, you must pay. Somehow, someway.
